In the year 2022, Government of Assam established two commissions namely State Level Recruitment Commission/s to conduct the recruitment process of various Grade III and IV posts under different departments of the Govt. of Assam.

The primary objective of these two commissions is to streamline and expedite the recruitment process, to curb expenditure due to holding of multiple recruitment for similar posts in different offices by different Boards and to give respite to the aspiring candidates from applying and appearing in different recruitment tests for similar posts under different Departments and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

## Core Structure of the Examination

The recruitment process is generally divided based on the educational qualifications required for the specific roles:

  • Grade III: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree, HSSLC (Class 12), or HSLC with a specialized diploma (like ITI or Computer Science).

  • Grade IV: Usually categorized by those who have cleared Class 8, HSLC (Class 10), or HSLC with ITI.

### Examination Pattern

The selection process usually involves two major stages:

  1. Written Test: An OMR-based multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam covering subjects like General Awareness, Social Studies, General Mathematics, Mental Ability, and English.

  2. Skill Test/Interview: Depending on the category, candidates may undergo a computer proficiency test, a stenography test, or a personal interview to determine final eligibility.

## Key Areas of Focus for Candidates

To succeed in ADRE, candidates generally focus on several high-weightage topics:

  • Assam History & Culture: Significant focus is placed on the Ahom Dynasty, the freedom movement in Assam, and local festivals/traditions.

  • Geography of Assam: Knowledge of the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, National Parks (like Kaziranga and Manas), and natural resources.

  • Mathematics: Basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, usually mapped to the Class 10 (SEBA/NCERT) curriculum.

  • Current Affairs: Emphasis on state-specific schemes, recent awards (like the Assam Baibhav), and regional developments.

## Impact on Aspirants

The ADRE has standardized the preparation landscape in Assam. Because the syllabus is broad and deeply rooted in state-specific data, it has encouraged a more structured approach to studying regional history and geography alongside general competitive subjects.

The competitive nature is high, often seeing hundreds of thousands of applicants vying for a limited number of vacancies, making it a cornerstone event for the state’s youth seeking stable public sector employment.
