The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) conducts the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) to recruit officers for the Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS), and other allied services.
If you are planning to appear for the 2026 exams, here is a breakdown of everything you need to know.
1. Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Must be an Indian Citizen and a Permanent Resident of Assam.

Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and Maximum 38 years (as of January 1 of the exam year).

Relaxations: SC/ST (+5 years), OBC/MOBC (+3 years), PwBD (+10 years).

Education: A Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Language: You should be proficient in Assamese or other official languages of the state.
2. Examination Stages
The APSC CCE follows a three-stage selection process:
Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Objective)
This is a screening test; marks are not counted for the final merit list.

Stage III: Interview (Personality Test)
Candidates who clear the Mains are called for an interview worth 180 marks. The final merit list is prepared by adding Mains + Interview marks (1680 total).
3. Top Services & Salary
The most sought-after positions through APSC are:

Assam Civil Service (ACS): Junior Grade.

Other Posts: Superintendent of Taxes, Labour Officer, Block Development Officer (BDO), etc.
Salary: An ACS officer’s starting basic pay is approximately ₹30,000 with a Grade Pay of ₹13,300. Including allowances (DA, HRA), the gross starting salary is roughly ₹70,000+ per month.
4. How to Start Preparing?
Core Preparation Strategy (The 12-Week Sprint)
Phase 1: Foundation & Assam Specifics (Weeks 1–6)
Assam History & Culture: Focus on the Ahom Kingdom, the British annexation, and Assam’s role in the Freedom Movement.
Resource: “An Introduction to Assam General Knowledge” by Sailen Baishya.
Assam Geography & Economy: Study the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys, tea industry, oil refineries, and state-specific biodiversity (Kaziranga, Manas).
Polity: Finish M. Laxmikanth’s Indian Polity but pay special attention to the 6th Schedule and the specific administrative structure of Assam.
Phase 2: National GS & Current Affairs (Weeks 7–9)
Modern History: High-yield area. Focus on 1857 to 1947.
Current Affairs: You need to cover from June 2025 to June 2026.
Assam Source: The Assam Tribune (Editorial section is a must).
National Source: Monthly compilations (Vision IAS or Drishti IAS).
Economy: Focus on the Union Budget 2026 and the Assam State Budget 2026.
Phase 3: Revision & Testing (Weeks 10–12)
CSAT (Paper II): Don’t ignore this. It’s qualifying (33%), but if you fail it, Paper I won’t even be checked. Practice basic mental ability and reading comprehension.
Mock Tests: Take at least one full-length mock test every 3 days. Focus on reducing negative marking—aim for 80% accuracy.
