The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) is conducted by the Government of Assam for recruitment to Grade III and Grade IV posts under various departments.

📝 Note: ADRE Grade III covers posts like Junior Assistant, Stenographer, etc. Grade IV covers posts like Peon, Chowkidar, etc. Both have different syllabus weightage.

- Assam Economy – Tea Industry, Oil, Agriculture, MSME in Assam
- Science & Technology – Inventions, Space (ISRO), Defence, IT
- Environment & Ecology – Biodiversity, National Parks of Assam, Climate Change
- Sports & Culture – Bihu, Sattriya, Traditional sports, Awards
📝 Note: Previous paper trend: 8–10 questions on Assam-specific topics (History + Geography + Culture). Always expect questions on Bihu festivals, Assam’s rivers, and freedom fighters like Gopinath Bordoloi, Kushal Konwar.
2B. GENERAL ENGLISH (25 Marks)
- Grammar – Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Active/Passive Voice
- Vocabulary – Synonyms, Antonyms, One-word Substitution, Idioms & Phrases
- Comprehension – Reading passage with 5–8 questions
- Sentence Correction – Spotting errors, Sentence improvement
- Fill in the Blanks – Based on grammar and vocabulary
- Word Usage – Spelling errors, Commonly confused words
📝 Note: Previous papers show 6–8 questions on grammar rules, 5 on comprehension, and remaining on vocabulary. Focus on prepositions and tenses for quick marks. Comprehension passage is usually 200–250 words.
2C. GENERAL MATHEMATICS / ARITHMETIC (25 Marks)
- Number System – HCF, LCM, Divisibility Rules, Fractions, Decimals
- Arithmetic – Percentage, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest
- Ratio & Proportion – Direct and Inverse Proportion, Partnership
- Time & Work – Pipes & Cisterns, Work efficiency
- Time, Speed & Distance – Trains, Boats & Streams
- Algebra – Linear equations, Basic algebraic expressions
- Geometry – Lines, Angles, Triangles, Circles, Area & Perimeter
- Mensuration – Area, Volume of 2D and 3D figures
- Data Interpretation – Bar Graph, Pie Chart, Table, Line Graph
- Statistics – Mean, Median, Mode, Range
📝 Note: Data Interpretation (DI) has been appearing consistently in last 3 years with 3–5 questions per set. Arithmetic questions (Percentage, Profit & Loss, SI/CI) form the largest chunk – approximately 10–12 questions combined.
2D. GENERAL INTELLIGENCE & REASONING (25 Marks)
- Verbal Reasoning – Analogy, Classification, Series Completion
- Coding-Decoding – Letter/Number coding, Substitution
- Blood Relations – Family trees, Relationships
- Direction & Distance – Compass directions, Movement-based problems
- Ranking & Arrangement – Position, Order, Seating arrangement
- Syllogism – All/Some/No type logical conclusions
- Non-Verbal Reasoning – Pattern completion, Mirror image, Embedded figures
- Mathematical Operations – BODMAS, Odd one out, Number series
- Puzzle – Tabulation, Scheduling-type puzzles
📝 Note: Non-verbal reasoning (Mirror image, Paper folding) accounts for 4–6 questions. Coding-decoding and analogy together form 8–10 questions. Reasoning is a high-scoring section if practiced systematically.
3. GRADE IV SYLLABUS (Complete)
Grade IV examination has a slightly simpler syllabus divided into 4 sections of 25 marks each.

📝 Note: Grade IV questions are class 8–10 level. MIL (Mother Indian Language) section allows option between Assamese, Bengali, or Bodo based on candidate’s choice declared at application stage.

📝 Note: ADRE 2023 had 5 questions on a Bar Graph (DI) in Mathematics and 1 comprehension passage of 5 questions in English – both were relatively easy and scoring. Do NOT skip these.

5B. MATHEMATICS QUICK-WIN TOPICS
- Percentage: x% of y = (x × y)/100; reverse percentage trick
- Profit & Loss: CP, SP, Profit% = (P/CP)×100, Discount on MP
- Simple Interest: SI = (P×R×T)/100; Compound Interest formula
- Time & Work: Work done = (1/days); Combined rate = sum of individual rates
- Ratio: Always reduce to simplest form first; cross-multiply for unknowns
- DI Tips: Read graph scale carefully; calculate % change, ratios from data
5C. ENGLISH SHORTCUTS
- Active to Passive: Object + be verb + past participle + by + subject
- Prepositions: ‘at’ for specific time/place; ‘in’ for larger areas/months/years
- Synonyms often tested: Benevolent (kind), Verbose (wordy), Pernicious (harmful)
- Antonyms often tested: Lucid ↔ Obscure; Transient ↔ Permanent
- Comprehension: Read questions first, then passage to save time
6. CURRENT AFFAIRS – ASSAM FOCUS
Current Affairs questions in ADRE are usually from the 6–12 months before the exam date. Key areas:

- Week 3 (Days 15–21): English Grammar rules + Vocabulary building (10 words/day). Read comprehension passages.
- Week 4 (Days 22–30): Reasoning practice (2 mock tests/day) + Current Affairs revision + Full mock tests.
7C. DO’S AND DON’TS
- ✅ Attempt all questions – 0.25 negative marking is manageable with intelligent guessing
- ✅ Focus more on Assam-specific content – unique advantage for local candidates
- ✅ Practice previous year papers (2019, 2022, 2023) under timed conditions
- ✅ Revise current affairs for last 12 months before exam
- ❌ Don’t skip DI and Comprehension – they are scoring and predictable
- ❌ Don’t leave reasoning unpracticed – it improves rapidly with practice
